All campsites in the rustic campgrounds are reservable as of the 2022 season. The NHAL has 14 rustic campgrounds totaling 505 campsites. They have only minimal facilities including hand-pumped water, pit toilets and no electricity. Typically, these campgrounds range from about 20 to 70 campsites, usually having a wider spacing than modern campgrounds. Many people have come to associate the NHAL with smaller, quieter, traditional rustic-style campgrounds.
